The puppies are now five weeks old and they are getting big. They range in weight from 5 to 7 pounds! They are eating soft puppy food and running all over the place. Ziva and the puppies are still being treated with vitamin K1 for the accidental ingestion of rat poison by Ziva. Neither Ziva nor the puppies have shown any signs of symptoms. We've started the weaning process with Ziva and the puppies as well. By next week they shouldn't need mama anymore.
Little Hurricane got an all clear from the vet's office today and went home with her new family the Briseno's of Jacksonville, NC.
Ziva and the puppies are doing great. The pups are a little over 4 weeks old and they are getting bigger and faster every day.
Well, we're at day 17 and all the puppies and Ziva are still doing well. No signs or symptoms of any poison. They don't care much for all this cold weather! They eat their food then fly back into their heated whelping box.
It's been 15 days since Ziva decided to eat rat poison! The great news is that she nor any of the puppies have shown any signs of symptoms. Ziva and pups are treated with vitamin K1 every day as prescribed by our vet. They have 27 more days to go. Then they should all be in the clear. My vet tells me that there should be no after or side effects from this. The puppies are now starting to eat more food they we feed them instead of nursing from mom. So, their exposure to the poison was limited through her milk and will continue to get smaller as they get older and nurse less.
Ziva's pups are getting really big and grownign fast. They are moving around well and they've started eating baby cereal.
All the pups and Ziva are doing well. Neither the pups or Ziva have shown any symptoms of the poison. The pups are getting very strong. They are starting to walk around pretty good inside the whelping box. We'll start trying to feeding them baby cereal and milk this weekend. And the Whelping box will be opened up so they can come and go as they please.
Ziva's puppies are now a little over 3 weeks old. They are still doing well and showing no signs of any poisoning. Ziva is doing well to. Theses guys are starting to get around and as a whole the entire litter gained 10lbs. over the past week!
It's been exactly one week today since the poisoning incident. Ziva and the pups still show no signs of any symtoms of the poison. the pups are fat, happy, and their eyes are open now. They are starting to walk on all four paws now instead of pulling themselves around with their front legs. They are getting stronger everyday. But boy do they hate their medication we have to give them everyday!
My name is Ryan Strickland and my wife Anita and I fell in love with the white dog, "Ziva" on the our dogs page. I found an older male "Yoda" and brought him home and we talked it over and decided to branch out Strickland's Kennels into NE Cape Fear GSD. Strickland's Kennels was a working retriever kennels that bred, raised, trained, and hunt tested retriever. We bred Golden and Chesapeake Bay Retriever since the early 1990's. I still train a retriever every so often for myself as a hunting dog or for a special client. We've been breeding and raising dogs since 1993.
